Social media marketing gurus.
In all my discussions with business owners in their dealings with social media gurus, all have agreed that they are promised the world and end up with excuses. The pitch

sold is that “we can get you to the top of Google” just follow the 5-step plan and leave the detail to us”. “Well It’s magic you know, and you need to be an expert to know how to navigate the complex world of Google algorithms.”
A few months down the line and you get “oh well we got you top of the google, but Google changed it’s policy so you are now penalised”, or the ubiquitous “there was more competition for those keywords than we thought, but with a few more months work ….” I have not met one business owner yet that has seen these promises fulfilled or has a positive experience regarding the whole exercise.
Social Media lessons learned.
I am sure that there are some digital media agencies who try and do the best for their clients, yet they are overshadowed by the vast majority that are no better than the cure all elixir salesmen of the 18th century. This is not a failure of technology but a profound misunderstanding of the nature of marketing.
In this series we shall demystify some of the jargon and look more deeply at what social media can and cannot do for your organisation. We shall look at how current efforts can enhance your existing advertising efforts and help define realistic on-line strategy that is focused on business growth. Having gone through these difficult learning curves myself I will share few of the painful lessons I have learnt.
Next in the series: “Social media what about the marketing”.
