One is API (application programming interface) which allows for additional functionality to an already existing program. Sometimes this is a link to allow two separate programs to talk to each other (i.e. a payroll program creating salary journal in the accounting package, or a digital telephone system that can prompt notes against a contact in CRM. These are usually smaller programming jobs as it requires matching the logic of both programs and getting them to talk to each other
