Migrating from Exchequer

Exchequer has Doubled The Price

With the recent price hikes from Exchequer, with the complete lack of investment in the product, we are being contacted by many customers affected regarding possible options. Some are staying with Exchequer, but transferring the license to us which keeps the platform going, whilst others are looking to move away.

If you are looking at suitable alternatives, then we have a few that we can recommend depend upon your business model. As independent Business Systems Analysts we can scope the data flows through different departments within your organization and then match the scope to features within the software. This will highlight advantages and drawbacks of each package until you get to the most appropriate fit.

Extracting Data From The Tables

After that then you need to extract information out of Exchequer which is no mean feat. The first is that it is not straight forward getting information out of Exchequer. You wont be able to pull all of the data from Advanced Exchequer via traditional methods of ODBC, CSV or OLE or reports. Even the information you do get from the system, information will be split between fields and the data would need to be reformatted such as date-time formats, currencies and text information.

Often there are anomalies in these data tables that through the relationships and normal queries simply don’t function.

We have experts that can extract data to replicate the table structure, either in MS SQL or Oracle MySQL databases with our ExSync Server engine, which can then “translate” the data to a fit state ready for upload to the new system. Our ExReport product helps with reporting and query building. Both products can be provided on a service basis, although ExReport is often purchased to provide cost-effective ongoing archive reporting.

What About Viewing Historical Transactions?

When you move to a new system it often starts from ground zero. You would bring all the information across into the new system at the beginning of a financial period (preferably the start of an accounting year) and then enter data moving forward. But often you may wish to look back and check the customer ledger to see what a client had purchased before without swapping between different programs. Even tough the accounting records wouldn’t be there, we could set up a link from the contact card to quickly refer back to previous transactions. Therefore nothing is ever truly lost.
